About Us

The Lehman Avenue Church of Christ started making history in 1953 when the Twelfth Street Church of Christ purchased the lot where our building stands today. Lawrence Hazelip conducted a tent meeting on the vacant lot before construction of the building began. The first worship service for the newly formed Lehman Avenue congregation was on March 8, 1955 with 168 in attendance.

Jim Pence preached for three and a half months as interim preacher before Roy J. Hearn (1955-1957) became the first full-time minister for Lehman Avenue. Following the departure of Brother Hearn, several outstanding men have served as ministers at Lehman Avenue: James Wells (1958-1961); Joe Cook Van Dyke (1962); Joe Morris (1963-1971); Yarbrough Leigh (1971-1982); Jack L. Ray (1982-2002); Garvis Semore (2002 - 2005); Dale Graham (2005 - 2007). Michael D. Greene, our current minister, has served since January, 2008.
